Christmas Day
Merry Christmas!
Bob had a great morning! He wondered why we were getting up and making him get dressed when Christmas he said was next week! HA~~
We got Bob a new clock that will hopefully help him with the day and time. This clock connects via satellite with the atomic clock in New Mexico. It tells him the date, day, time, and temperature. It has large numbers and is very easy to read. We hope this will help him keep his days straight.
We also got him a new light for his room. The ceiling fan bothers him. It makes him nervous with the spinning action and it creates shadows on the walls and ceiling. We are taking the ceiling fan down and replacing it with an old fashion plain light. We are hoping this helps also. If when warm weather rolls around he needs a fan we will get a small oscillating fan for his dresser.
Lesa, his niece, sent him gift cards to Steak and Shake for when we go see the plays. He loves eating there and there is one right near the theater. She also sent him new lounge pants with UK on them. (I will need to work on getting him some from Alabama and LSU) He is currently wearing his new lounge pants.
He was given a visit from his daughter, Tina with her husband and middle child, Helen. They stopped by for a few hours to share Christmas with him. Tina got her dad a collection of DVD’s that included Charlie Chan, and Sherlock Holmes movies. These are great since Rob tries to watch one or two old movies with him a week. He really enjoyed these movies. His granddaughter, Christina was given tickets to see the ICE show at the Gaylord Palms and was attending the show. She will have something in common to share with her Grandfather when she comes to visit latter.
Bob also got candy and homemade cookies. The cookies came from my parents. He dived right him eating those. YUMMMM. We received two tins of cookies and he claimed both of them telling us they fit nicely in his room.
Sarah also made out well this Christmas. She received four pairs of shoes, perfume, UK shirts, rings, the Wii Fit game, and the game Spores. She also wound up with almost $100 from friends and family.
Rob was a sweet heart this year and since he couldn’t get me a new camera he fixed our grill which is almost like new now; and he fixed the rails that had broken on our refrigerator. I know that doesn’t seem like a lot, but it meant more to me than words can ever say. What a guy! Thanks honey, I love you for thinking of the little things that make our lives function better.
Rob and I hope that you had a great Christmas just like we did. We hope you spent it with ones you love, remembered those who weren’t with you, and preserved the day with lots of photos and videos. Years from now loved ones with look back and remember the Christmas of 2008! Now, let’s all get ready for a new year full of wonderful challenges and adventures…..

Merry Christmas
It was a quiet week. We did not go bowling or ice skating. Ice skating was not going to be very fun with him since there isn’t anything for him to do and it is cold. Normally, this activity falls on a day that Rob is home. We decided to skip this month and try for next month.
Last week I hit the exercise bike with my foot walking through the living room and broke my little toe. It is still a little sore and so Sarah and I thought it would just be best to skip bowling. Sarah would have to bowl with Pop since I couldn’t bowl with him, and she wouldn’t get to visit with her friends.
Our family was given a great treat on Saturday with a visit from Mike and Wanda Stiffler. Mike is a childhood friend of Rob’s and they live in Sarasota, Florida. They came for the day and brought their two grandchildren, Alanna, and Sarah Grace. We had a great day spending time with them. Pop stayed in his room most of the day. Small children make him nervous. He did get a large grin on his face when they came back in his room to say hello.
He has enjoyed the Christmas cards from everyone. I took a card back to him on Friday. I handed him the card and asked him who it was from. He told me his eyes were getting bad again because he couldn’t see it. I asked him to try again and look at the return address. “Try and read it again and tell me who it is from.” He stared at the name for a good two minutes and then he looked at me and said, “Susan”. I smiled and said, “Who do you know by that name? I think you talked to someone just this last week…” suddenly, he remembered and he shouted out, “Sue! It’s from my cousin Sue.”
Sue asked him to draw a picture of the old house on the reservoir. He said he would like to draw the house, but he doesn’t think he remembers the house well enough. I told him I have a picture of that old house and will let him look at it.
We also found a treat this week. We were cleaning out a ton of home made videos that Bob had made over the years. Most of these are movies he had taped off the TV. We were getting rid of bags full of these old VHS tapes. I found three tapes that were of home movies. One of them was labeled: Buster’s home movies-Mom’s copy. Rob and I put the tape in and sat and watched, and watched, and watched. We saw relatives from long ago. It wasn’t easy getting out of Bob who Buster was, but finally we sparked his memory to tell us that Buster was Aunt Dot’s husband. Aunt Dot is Bob’s Mother’s sister. Rob is taking the VHS tape to have it copied to a DVD. What an awesome treat to find.
I asked him what he thought Santa was going to bring him this year, and he told me that he hasn’t been good enough for Santa, but he knows that his niece, Lesa will load him up. I laughed and told him he will just have to wait and see.
Have a very Merry Christmas everyone! We love and miss you all. Keep the memories alive with lots of pictures this year.

Tis the Season
Tis the Season as they say, and with the Season comes a lot of running around. I have been so busy with things that I didn’t get to post last week so this week I had doubled the work. So let me just jump right in and try to get you all up to date on Bob’s progress.
Bob had a visit from his old friend, Charlie, on Saturday, December 6. We met Charlie at Denny’s for brunch. We had a great time talking about the time Bob, Charlie, and Harold traveled down the river one summer. Charlie brought a lot of information for Bob to help him in his writing about that trip. Bob has been doing some writing. He has about two pages written. Some is legible and some isn’t. I read pieces here and there and encourage him to keep going.
Bob got an early Christmas present. We had bought the family a recumbent exercise bike. Bob was getting up in the morning around 9:30, drinking his coffee, and then returning to bed. We would catch him at 11 and 12:00 in bed snoring. That had to stop and so Rob and I decided we needed to get the bike out now instead of waiting for Christmas. It has worked. Bob can use it and it is set right in front of the TV. So we put a DVD in and tell him to watch two Jack Benny shows. That lasts about 40 minutes. At least he is out in the house with the rest of the family, moving his legs, and watching interacting with us. After the 40 minutes he is both mentally and physically worn out.
I have to limit where I can take Bob now. We return to the doctor on Jan. 16 and I am going to beg for a handicap parking permit. Bob is very unsteady on his feet and he is very hard headed. When he has to go up steps he only puts his foot half way on the step. He has almost fallen on me a number of times now. Last week I just had to put my foot down and after chewing him out at Wendy’s I decided it would be better to use the wheel chair then fight anymore. You know if you have a toddler, it is sometimes better to put them in the stroller and strap them in, then chase them all over the parking lot. So now if it is a place that is flat with not a lot of walking he can use his walker, but otherwise he goes in the chair.
This last week Bob got a big treat. We took him to the Gaylord Palms Resort so see the ICE show. This is the sixth year the Gaylord Palms in Orlando has put on the show. They bring artists over from China to hand carve wonderful ice sculptures. It is nine degrees in the room and Bob was not happy about that. Rob and I knew that he wasn’t going to be happy and were prepared. Rob teased his dad about having a sour face, and we ignored most of the comments. We bundled him up tight and pushed him through the show. If you ever are new a Gaylord Palms resort at Christmas I highly recommend seeing the show. It was so beautiful and well worth every penny we paid.
After the ICE show we then went on a horticulture tour that the resort provides. It was full of wonderful information about plants from all over the world and we even had some fish, alligators, and turtles to look at. Bob warmed up after the cold from the ice. We had a lovely lunch and Bob was worn out by the end of the day.
Give him a call this week and ask him about the hotel made of ice. He will tell you it was nine degrees below zero and how he froze to death. HA! Tell him to be good so Santa will come bring him presents. Maybe that will work…it’s worth a try.
